Show Highlights

With so much to do and see at the show, these are just some of the highlights not to miss.

Kid’s Korner

We will be having 2 kids areas this year. One in each wing of the show.

Visit he AFMS Future Rockhounds of America booth, where kids can learn about the Junior program activities such as mineral id, fossil egg hunt bingo, and educational resources will be shared. Learn about clubs in the area that have programs designed just for kids. There will also be a number of ongoing activities for kids and adults. If you are a teacher or want more information about fun ways to teach kids about rockhounding, this is the place to be.

At the Kids Korner, children can begin or add to their rock, mineral, and fossil collections for free! At this year’s show children can collect tumbled stones, tiny agates, fossils of ancient sea creatures, and teeth of sharks that lived during the Age of Dinosaurs. We will also pass out free samples of rocks carried by railroad cars, like coal and iron ore, and help you learn the names of some of the most common rocks found in your neighborhood. This is a great way for scouts and 4-H members to work on their badges, arrow, petals, try-it, or spark projects. Bring your group with their questions for our CGMA geology and paleontology experts!

Beading

Watch the beading experts show you the tools and techniques for creating beautiful jewelry. You can learn about all facets of beading, including fusing, advantages of different clasps, fold forming, tube setting and more!

Educational Exhibits

A number of local museums, often the Field Museum and the Lizzadro Museum, offer an educational exhibit. In addition, club members create education displays using specimens from their private collections. This year will also include competitive displays for judging. Find out what it takes to display a competitive display. Make a visit to the UV Light tent & see specimens under a “different” light. You will be amazed what you see!
